Before We Finish: Gavin Appel, Co-founder of Onestack
One of my favourite things about my work is the interesting people I connect and collaborate with on a daily basis. Now I'm asking these individuals five quick questions, 'before we finish' our meetings. First up is Gavin Appel, co-founder of Onestack.
Who is your last text from? What does it say?
iMessage: “Walking across now” from a founder I met at Glovers Station this morning at 8:00am.
Do you have a mentor?
I don’t now. I have had my whole career until co-founding Onestack. I now have a number of sounding boards instead including my father who’s a lawyer and my father-in-law who’s an accountant.
Favourite failure? (your own)
At Hitwise we spent a lot of money investing in a new product, but we still underinvested. This resulted in the new product failing and a missed market opportunity. What I learned: don’t under invest in product when there is a big opportunity ahead of you.
What podcast do you never miss?
Recode/Decode with Kara Swisher. I have been following her work since the early days of All Things D.
What haven't you achieved yet?
Putting down my iPhone for more than 5 minutes. Not checking Twitter more than 4,000 times a day. For me this is about achieving better work/life balance.
